Every year, the city rowing community in Cambridge comes together over 4 evenings in July for the traditional and very exciting “bumping races”, also known as the Town Bumps on the River Cam. The races are organized by the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association.

Deyton Bell are delighted to announce that they will once again be organising The First Post Enclosure in 2010. This key hospitality initiative, conceived and launched by Deyton Bell in 2007, will once again take place during Cambridge Town Weeks in July 2010. The First Post enclosure in Fen Ditton, offers a prime position fronting the River Cam and provides a wonderful opportunity for local organisations to come together and watch some very exciting racing while entertaining guests in magnificent settings. Groups attending in the past 3 years have included various local businesses, as well as regional charities. The event has proved a great success and we are now planning for 2010.

Imagine the setting… a July evening, a private reserved area on the grassy banks of the Cam, views looking down towards the start of the races from the first bend providing the best vantage point possible – what a wonderful way to enjoy the spectacle with friends, family, colleagues, customers and suppliers. The boats are on the water between 5 and 9pm, all going flat out to ensure their crews bump the boat in front. It’s a tremendously exciting series of races – a great way to spend an evening – and The First Post Enclosure is the best place to watch.

The Town Bumps runs this year from Tuesday 20th July to Friday 23rd July. We have 5 marquee areas available for private hire, either on a per night basis or for the duration of the event which would be for 4 nights. Deyton Bell have their own marquee within the enclosure and are currently taking reservations from various interested groups in the local vicinity, who want to have their own private marquee area. It will only be possible to have a few organisations participating and the private areas will be reserved on a first come first served basis, with some confirmed bookings already agreed.

Private areas include a 30ft x 20ft marquee and tables and chairs for 40 people within it. Organisations will need to make their own catering arrangements but we are happy to provide a list of caterers and help with this if required. Within your private area you can also erect stands, flags, signage etc that you may like to use to make it more personal or to improve the visibility of your brand. There will be toilet facilities on site, along with marshal coordinated parking in reserved areas.

The First Post Enclosure event is run on a normal commercial basis, however we like to use the event to support local charities. Revenue generated from Partners hiring sites has enabled Deyton Bell to offer some sites to charities on a complimentary basis. We have supported the following charities in the past: EACH, Macmillan Cancer Care, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Teenage Cancer Trust and we will continue this support for other local charities in 2010.
